The fractionation of Russell's-viper (Vipera russellii) venom with special reference to the coagulant protein.

venom with serum and platelets resulted in a progressive increase in coagulant activity. Peden & Peacock (1958) found that ox serum was particularly active in potentiating the coagulant activity of the venom, and suggested that the venom acted enzymically on a substrate contained in the serum. The serum factor can be partially purified by adsorption on barium sulphate and elution by 0-2m-citrate (Macfarlane, 1961). By using a specific antiserum to inhibit the venom, Macfarlane (1961) obtained further evidence suggesting that the

Electrophoretic Patterns of Some Viper Venoms From Turkey
In this study, the venom extract of five viper species (Vipera xanthina, Vipera ammodytes, Vipera kaznakovi, Vipera wagneri and Vipera lebetina) collected from various regions of Turkey was subjected to polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis. No pressure was applied to the venom glands to provide venom extract. Important differences were detected among the electrophoretic patterns of venom protein...
متن کاملPurification and characterization of an organ specific haemorrhagic toxin from Vipera russelli russelli (Russell's viper) venom.
A haemorrhagic toxin (VRR-12) from Vipera russelli russelli (Russell's viper) venom has been purified by ion-exchange chromatography on CM-Sephadex C-50 followed by size-exclusion HPLC to electrophoretically homogeneous state. It is a 12 kDa single polypeptide having 1 mole of Zn+2 ion. This toxin induces intense intestinal haemorrhage and to a lesser extent skeletal muscle haemorrhage in mice....
متن کاملAge-dependent variations in the venom proteins of Vipera xanthina (Gray, 1849) (Ophidia: Viperidae).
In this study, polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis and densitometry analysis methods were used to analyze venom extracts of Vipera xanthina specimens of different lengths (35, 47 and 88 cm) collected from the same locality. The electropherograms of the venom protein samples showed age-dependent qualitative and quantitative variations.
متن کاملComparative Venomics of the Vipera ammodytes transcaucasiana and Vipera ammodytes montandoni from Turkey Provides Insights into Kinship
The Nose-horned Viper (Vipera ammodytes) is one of the most widespread and venomous snakes in Europe, which causes high frequent snakebite accidents. The first comprehensive venom characterization of the regional endemic Transcaucasian Nose-horned Viper (Vipera ammodytes transcaucasiana) and the Transdanubian Sand Viper (Vipera ammodytes montandoni) is reported employing a combination of intact...
متن کاملInhibition of Toxic Effects of Viper and Cobra Venom by Indian Medicinal Plants
The mortality rate from snakebites in West Bengal is very high and most of the deaths are caused by the Daboia russelli and Naja naja envenomation. Twenty-three plants from the seventeen families were collected from the traditional healers and explored for the first time for antisnake venom activity. In our previous report, the methanolic root extract of the Indian medicinal plants Pluchea indi...
